The first pass drilling at MV3 6km northwest of Sanbrado included hits such as 13m at 5.3 grams per tonne gold from 110m and 14m at 3gpt from 113m.
According to WAF, gold mineralisation in RC drilling and historic workings can be traced over a current strike length of 800m.
With regards the true width of the mineralisation, the gold miner said the orientation of the zone has been established and the majority of the drilling was planned in such a way as to intersect mineralisation in a perpendicular manner or as close as practicable.
Drilling is ongoing with the company optimistic the prospect could prove a valuable mill feed addition.
Meanwhile, the feasibility study for the 6.8 million-ounce Kiaka project in Burkina Faso is said to be on track for completion this quarter, while Sanbrado is forecast to produce 220,000-240,000oz this year at all-in-sustaining costs of US$1040-1100/oz.
Shares in WAF were unchanged at A$1.25 in morning trade, capitalising the company at nearly $1.3 billion.
