It was the final session and final presentation of the day. Delegates and media alike were tired and keen to move onto the cocktail party but everyone was a little curious to see what Forrest had in store for the Excellence in Exploration and Mining Conference in Sydney.
A five-minute video presentation opened the Fortescue presentation while Forrest stood proudly like a 15th century renaissance artist admiring his work.
Bold claims including “the iron ore industry is dominated by three companies and the world steel mills urgently need an independent iron or producer” filled the auditorium while audience members were constantly reminded Fortescue is “the new force in iron ore”
Only Forrest could get away with such a stunt.
“Thanks ladies and gentleman, we are running a little short of time so we might leave it there,” he quipped as the video came to an end drawing laughter from the audience and the chair alike. He had them eating from his hand.
With that, Forrest launched onto the front foot for the hard sell with that salesman’s flair, employing the wonders of a fly-through, fly-over, fly-everywhere animated presentation during a 15-minute presentation.
At the end of it all there was nothing new to report, but the presentation was surely spectacular.
