Established in 1983, the Australian-based consultancy has worked on more than 8000 projects in 111 countries.

"The opening of this office reflects the growing importance of Russia in AMC's business model and, in our view, the importance of Russia in the global economy and the mineral resources sector," AMC managing director Patrick Smith said.

"After completing 88 jobs in Russia, 55 of these in last four years alone, we are confident in our ability to positively contribute to the development of the Russian mining industry.

"We are very fortunate to have a mining engineer of Mark Chesher's competence and experience leading this office and look forward to continuing to help clients unearth a smarter way to mine from Moscow."

Australia's ambassador to the Russian Federation, Peter Tesch said there was a growing global awareness of Australian resource industry technology and experience and "AMC opening a representative office in Moscow is further evidence of the trend".
