Ghana power woes keep Newmont project in the dark

DEVELOPMENT of Newmont Mining’s $US500 million ($A662.5 million) Akyem gold project in Ghana appears to be on hold after the company’s engineering contractor Lycopodium yesterday said it had been advised by the American company that the project was suffering from permit issues and countrywide power shortages.
