French rock breaker launches at AIMEX

The Tecman C300 compact heavy-duty rock breaker boom offers hydraulic hammer options that are easy to control, even for inexperienced operators.

Based in Saint-Quentin, northern France, Tecman has created rock breaking solutions for the mining and quarrying industries for more than 20 years.

CME chief executive officer Gordon Fogwill said the Tecman C300 could be used to break rocks that were obstructing crusher openings or if the rocks were too large to fit through shoots.

"Compared to our competitors, this range has a higher specification level, the slew ring at the bottom turns it on the pedestal," Fogwill said.

"Typically, equipment of this size don't have them, they usually have hydraulic rams to move it around."

The combined weight of the rock breaker's boom and hammer is around 2.4 tonnes for the standard models.

"Tecman purpose design the booms, a lot of our competitors buy from a catalogue, whereas Tecman purpose fit solutions for all our customers," Fogwill added.

Miners can operate the rock breaker via a manual or wireless remote control.

"Operators in a front-end loader or dozer can sit in the cab and operate the rock breaker without having to get out, which makes it a lot easier and safer for them," Fogwill said.

Tecman export director Darrell Bendall believes one of the biggest problems at a minesite is the abundance of dust and silica, which is why the Tecman C300 has sealed arrangements around its components.

"Another aspect the Tecman range brings to CME is we can make after-market parts for our competitors' hammers and we can also service them," Bendall said.

Tecman says it's the world's largest manufacturer of customised rock breaker booms.

Perth-based CME is a subsidiary of US crushing equipment specialist H-E Parts International.

CME's mining clients include Rio Tinto, Xstrata, BHP Billiton and Fortescue Metals Group.
