The sub-contract was awarded by BGC for an initial 12-month term.
Whittens, a Perth-based concrete company, will deliver about 44,000 cubic metres of concrete to support the construction of a car-dumper facility, stacker, reclaimer and conveyer structures for the $10 billion project.
“Being awarded this contract reinforces our standing as a leader in civil concrete construction and we welcome this opportunity to further our growth within the competitive Western Australian iron ore project industry,” director Clayton Whitten said.
“The Roy Hill project is especially important for us as it ensures our significant involvement within one of the largest resources projects currently underway in Western Australia.”
A peak workforce of about 170 will be required and Whittens has started a recruitment drive.
Whittens is already managing contracts worth about $145 million and is looking to expand.
“As the world economy begins to stabilise, we are focusing our attention on multiple sectors throughout Australia including South Australia and New South Wales,” Whitten said.
“We see the North West of WA as a location where we can draw on our expertise and superior quality of workmanship to deliver innovative solutions, with Roy Hill enabling us to further demonstrate our ability on a large-scale project.”
