Awarded by PT Mahakam Sumber Jaya, which is part of the Tanito Coal Group, Leighton will lift current raw coal production to more than 8 million tonnes per annum.
Leighton Asia managing director Hamish Tyrwhitt said the contract extension was testament to the company’s strong performance at MSJ since 2004.
“The Tanito group is one of Indonesia’s largest and most successful coal mining companies and the award of this contract further solidifies our close working relationship,” he said.
“We've successfully demonstrated our ability to add value to our client’s project over many years, both through the quality of our people and the safety and reliability of our operations.
“Backed by a strong international presence and vast experiences in the mining sector, our mining professionals have thrived on providing world-class solutions to our clients and reaffirm our competitive position in Indonesia.”
This latest win elevates Leighton Asia’s work on hand to record levels of more than $7 billion.
Leighton shares are up 27c to $32.58 this morning.
