Southern Cross has been asked to begin work on the concentrator area for the second process train.

The work will run for around six months.

Southern Cross expects the contract to be worth $8-10 million.

The company has also been instructed to begin work on conveyors at the project, which will take around three months.

The contract has an estimated value of $6 million.

Southern Cross will transfer the workforce from Area F at the project, where electrical and instrumentation work is being completed, to the new work areas.

The contract awards continue a long relationship between Southern Cross and lead project contractor China Metallurgical Corporation.

Southern Cross completed the early works on the project in 2009 and worked on a number of contracts for it since then.

Shares in Southern Cross closed 1c down to $1.33.
