At Asia-Pacific’s International Mining Exhibition in Sydney next month, Downer will be debuting its ReGen mine reclamation and land rehabilitation service.

ReGen general manager Ross Browning said its offering of complete solutions for mine reclamation and land rehabilitation would complement Downer’s existing services.

“The potential market for our ReGen services covers the 200-plus open cut mines across Australia that require, or will require, rehabilitation services, progressively and upon closure,” he said.

“With increasing regulatory and community expectations for mine rehabilitation and post-mining land uses, ReGen is looking to tap into this growing $1 billion per year market.

“Our aim is to become Australia’s premier provider of mine reclamation and land rehabilitation services and we will be establishing a presence in Australia’s main mining hubs – the Bowen Basin, the Hunter Valley and the Pilbara.”

Browning said with Downer or its subsidiaries already operating at more than a quarter of Australia’s open cut mines, ReGen could leverage off these relationships.

“As no other tier one mining contractors currently offer this expertise, ReGen is a perfect addition to Downer Mining’s diverse service offerings,” he said.

“Although there are a number of companies that offer services for certain aspects of rehabilitation, there is none with Downer’s capacity and expertise to offer the complete suite: design, bulk earthworks, civil capacity, revegetation and monitoring and maintenance.

“The creation of ReGen means that mine owners can now contract to a single business – a business that has the cost effectiveness, efficiency and low-risk profile of a tier one mining contractor.”

Browning said Downer already had a strong track record in the field, including 300 hectares of successfully rehabilitated land at Bale Bone mine in New South Wales and the Blackwater Creek diversion at Curragh mine in Queensland.

“We’re also currently demonstrating this expertise at our existing mining projects, like Commodore, where our rehabilitation program continues to deliver remarkable results,” he said.

Downer will exhibit on stand SL300 at AIMEX to be held at the Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park on August 20-23, 2013.
