Downer jobs to go as BHP cuts Goonyella contract

MORE than 400 workers are expected to lose their jobs with contractor Downer EDI after BHP Billiton prematurely disbanded its $A360 million pre-strip contract at the Goonyella Riverside metallurgical coal mine in Queensland in a desperate bid to maintain mine profitability.
