The substation augmentation project is due to be completed early next year.
The 150 megawatt combined-cycle gas power station is being built in South Hedland by TransAlta.
At the moment the South Hedland Temporary Generation plant installation, owned by Horizon Power, consists of a number of temporary open cycle gas turbine generation units, associated equipment and 220 kilovolt high voltage substation facilities.
The existing facilities are to be augmented and integrated into the new permanent generation and power export facilities.
ABB will design, engineer, supply and commission the substation upgrade and provide air-insulated switchgear, a 11/220kV generator transformer, protection and substation automation modifications.
Fitting out a bay within the existing 220kV switchyard to incorporate the 11/220kV generator transformer and associated infrastructure works forms part of the scope of works.
