Few details have been confirmed but WorkSafe Tasmania said it was investigating a fatal accident involving an interstate worker.

“As the investigation is ongoing, no further information is available at this time,” WorkSafe Tasmania CEO Mark Cocker said.

Grange Resources requested a trading halt on Friday regarding “an incident on the mine site”.

The company said this morning that a "specialist contractor" had been involved in a serious safety incident at the mine's North pit, but strangely, did not mention that the worker had been killed.

Operations continue at the South pit, 5km away.
