Batten is a unique journalist in the business-to-business publishing space, in that she has served her seven-year career entirely writing about resources and also publishing in the digital format alone.
She took over the editorship of Aspermont’s flagship online publication three years ago and has maintained a tenacious approach to what must be considered one of the busiest daily publishing cycles Australia.
The award was voted on by companies operating in the resources industry and peers within the media.
The award recognises, according to Diggers, a journalist who has demonstrated that they have a passion for the resources industry and have been proactive in ensuring that the resources industry retains a strong external profile.
“As editor, Kristie is responsible for getting out three newsletters per day, an early morning pre-market update entailing her arriving at work before most of us have had breakfast, the main daily bulletin providing a summary of the important resources stories emerging each day, and concluding with an after market update each afternoon,” Diggers chairman Nick Giorgetta said at the WesTrac Gala Dinner.
“This requires persistence and dedication and Kristie has earned the respect of the resources industry and her peers, and is most deserving of the 2015 media award."
Giorgetta said that advances in technology meant “we no longer rely on newspapers for access to news. Much of our information is delivered through the electronic media and the internet, and we are delighted that the 2015 award recognises someone who is influential and highly professional in reporting on the resources industry within the electronic media.”
