Midwest is seeking an urgent meeting with WA Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan in an attempt to settle the "unresolved issues" that have apparently blocked the extension.

A spokesperson for Midwest told MiningNews.net the company was hopeful it would speak with the minister either today or tomorrow before the permit expires at midnight on Saturday, September 29.

In May, Midwest applied to the Government to extend its road haul permit but only received notice that the extension would not be granted yesterday.

The company has been working towards transferring its haulage operations from road to rail for several months, but has suffered delays due to "circumstances beyond its control"

Earlier this year, Midwest announced its rail operation would be running fully by October after being granted an extension of its road haulage permit to the end of September.
