The numbers were a product of graphite sales of 162,000t at a weighted average price of $661/t.
Syrah had cash at the end of 2022 of $90 million.
The loss last year was less than in 2021 when the operation was restarted after being COVID-shuttered for a period.
Meanwhile the company with a mining operation in Mozambique and downstream aspirations in the US has reported a new ore reserve of 110.3 million tonnes grading 16.4% total graphitic carbon, enough for 50-plus year mine life.
Syrah said it targeting record Balama capacity utilisation in 2023, plus the start of operations of the 11,250tpa AAM Vidalia facility in Louisiana.
Shares in Syrah were trading this week at A$1.68, capitalising the company at $1.13 billion.
The stock was at similar levels 12 months ago, though it reached $2.69 in November.
