US stocks up, despite June record for new virus cases

Texas slowed the easing of restrictions as cases jumped by 4.8%, or 5996, according to Bloomberg.

The Thursday total of new cases for the US was 39,907, the third straight day of more than 35,000 new cases.

"The number of ChinaVirus cases goes up, because of GREAT TESTING, while the number of deaths (mortality rate), goes way down. The Fake News doesn't like telling you that!" US president Donald Trump tweeted.

Gold was trading at US$1774.60 an ounce as US jobless claims rose.

Copper was back at close to a four-month high, rising 0.5% to $5883.50 per tonne.
