Gold rises despite sell off

THE gold price managed a modest $US1 an ounce increase overnight despite news the European Central Bank (ECB) had sold an additional 47 tonnes of the metal and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) was keen to start selling some of its 103 million ounce stockpile.
