Cockatoo mine partner sells out

MAJOR Japanese steelmaker JFE Steel Corporation has acquired private company Republic Coal, which holds a 37.5% stake in the Baralaba mine in Queensland plus a 20% share of the nearby Wonbindi project, for a reported figure of more than $A164 million.

While Republic will not reveal the sums involved, JFE paid about 13-15 billion yen ($164-189 million) to acquire all the shares of Republic from its holding company according to the Nikkei Business Daily....
