BHP, Vale approve $3.18B Samarco expansion

FORMAL approval has been given to a $US3.5 billion ($A3.18 billion) expansion of the world-class Samarco iron ore mine in Brazil by partners BHP Billiton and Vale that will lift rates to 30.5 million tonnes per annum.
