Gold plays lose their sparkle

SPOT gold slumped $US8.95 to $923.35 per ounce at 3.33pm EST after the metal slipped on a strengthening US dollar. Gold stocks on the <I>Final Call</I> watchlist followed suit with Newcrest Mining slumping $A1.66 to close at $28.32, Lihir Gold fell 8c to $3.06 and Sino Gold dropped 29c to $5.30.
