Lemington, an open cut mine in New South Wales, last year produced 3.4 million tonnes of coal.
Included in the sale discussions is a related 44% interest in Mount Thorley Coal Loading Ltd.
“We are putting the Lemington coal mine out there to basically test how much our assets are worth,” Exxon Coal and Minerals Australia spokesperson Alexandra Roberts, said.
“Exxon has been approached lately about the mine and after a strategic review of the coal industry we decided to test the market.”
If offers are unacceptable, Exxon Mobil subsidiaries will continue to manage the mine.
