Drilling at shallow depths found high-grade intersections of 5m at 92.3grams per tonne, 2m at 227.7gpt, 5m at 12.7gpt and 2m at 25.3gpt gold.
These are the first results from a 6000m drilling program on the Kainantu Gold Project’s Irumafimpa prospect, which contains continuous high-grade gold mineralisation over a 1100m strike length that remains open in all directions.
The Kainantu Gold Project covers 261sq.km of a known goldfield in the Eastern Highlands of PNG.
In June 1999, Highlands established a joint venture with Nippon Mining and Metals of Japan, which allows Nippon to acquire a 50% stake in Kainantu by sole funding US$3.5 million of expenditure.
Irumafimpa currently has an inferred resource estimate of 1.84 million tones at 30.1gpt gold.
