Bolnisi regains control of Quartzite

REPRESENTATIVES of Australian gold miner Bolnisi Mining Operations NL have been reinstated to the...

The court upheld an appeal by the company against an earlier decision by the Bolnisi District Court which excluded it from the decision-making process of Quartzite.

Bolnisi owns 50% of the company, while state-owned corporation JSC Madneuli controls the other half.

Bolnisi said its representatives have returned to the Quartzite mine site and resumed operational control. They have been told that gold ore seized by Madneuli representatives is being held at the Tbilisi bank, where it is normally held pending export to Johnson Matthey in England for refining.

The company said it would pursue its challenge against the guarantee of Madneuli debts by Quartzite, and actions against Madneuli representatives for failing to act in the interests of the joint venture company.
