Some of the world's leading coal producers are participating in Global Coal, including Anglo American, Billiton, Glencore and Rio Tinto.

The marketing director of the new business, John Lowen, told Platts Commodity News that 400 million tonnes of coal changed hands in the trial, which ended Friday. More than 50 companies had participated in the trial.
