St Barbara Limited is an Australian based, ASX listed gold producer and explorer. St Barbara's assets include one of Australia's deepest underground mines at its Leonora Operations in Western Australia and an open pit gold mining operation on Simberi Island in Papua New Guinea (PNG).

St Barbara Limited are currently seeking a Leonora based Mining Superintendent (Technical & Operations) to join the highly engaged and dynamic workforce within our Mining Department.

Reporting to the Manager Mining, the successful incumbent will enable safely sustainable production from the Gwalia Mine through the coordination of planning and execution of all mining activities, as well as fulfilling the Statutory role of Alternate Underground Manager.

Key accountabilities of this role include:

Technical accountabilities

 

  • Contribute to ensuring the health and safety of all personnel in the Mining Department and who work in the Gwalia mine
  • Contribute to ensure there is a comprehensive suite of fit-for-purpose systems in place and operating properly in the Mining Department
  • Contribute to ensuring the Mining Department meets its environmental, community and statutory obligations and is considered a welcome guest in host communities
  • Contribute to ensuring a constructive and creative environment for business improvement within the Mining Department
  • Coordinate the Mining Departments planning functions, in order to deliver timely and accurate:

    • Weekly (7/21) schedules, Monthly plans, Quarterly Forecasts and Annual Budgets
    • Stope and development designs that optimise the extraction of Gwalia mine ore bodies
    • Drill & blast designs that optimise the extraction of Gwalia mine orebodies
    • Backfill designs that optimise the extraction of Gwalia mine orebodies
    • Ventilation designs that optimise utilisation of installed ventilation capacity
    • Geotechnical designs that optimise the local and regional stability of the Gwalia mine
    • Coordinating the mining Departments execution functions, in order to deliver to plan in respect of:

      • Production tonnes and contained ounces
      • Development
      • Cost per ounce and cash flow
      • Capital spend

       

     

  • Coordinate required activities to ensure the long-term integrity of the fixed assets (infrastructure and mine development)
  • Lead or otherwise contribute to designated projects as required
  • Process End of Month claims for all Mining Department contractors
  • Contribute productively as a member of the Mining Department leadership Team, and in an acting capacity on the Site Leadership Team as required

Scheduling accountabilities

 

  • Ensure that the Mining Department develops and uses effective plans that derive from and support the Company and Leonora Operations plans

People accountabilities

 

  • Ensure own work performance meets all role requirements
  • Ensure personal development in existing role
  • Maintain team flexibility by ensuring operational readiness for redeployment of team members into other roles, through training and advancement of team members across all technical roles

Experience and Qualifications Required:

The successful candidate will have:

Essential

 

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara's Values
  • Ability to produce a National Police Clearance (valid within the last 3 months) for site access purposes
  • Current unencumbered West Australian C Class Driver's Licence
  • A WA First Class Mine Manager Certificate of Competency
  • A Mining Engineering qualification accredited by the Institute of Engineers Australia, as required for WA First Class Mine Manager certification
  • At least ten (10) years relevant underground hard rock mining experience, of which not less than five (5) years is in technical engineering roles
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively within a team
  • Strong communication skills, including communicating with people from different backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines on multiple tasks
  • High level of enthusiasm for the work with high performance goals
  • Commercial acumen relevant to the role
  • Relevant resources industry experience to include transactional (production), tactical (short term planning) and strategic (long term planning) roles

This role is offered on an 8 days on / 6 days off, 4 days on / 3 days off roster FIFO from Perth, or DIDO from Kalgoorlie.
